Disney Fort Wilderness Campgrounds
Are you thinking of staying at Disney and want to feel like you’re at the best summer camp of your life? Then you need to stay at Disney Fort Wilderness campgrounds.
Yes, it is one of the cheapest resorts but it is not lacking any of the Disney magic. Adventure is out there, and you will find it!
Accomodations
You don’t have to ruff it in a tent, unless your like my family and love to! Disney Fort Wilderness welcomes RVs of various sizes and also has cabins on site for campers of all glamping levels.
The primitive sites at the Fort even offer electric. Your four legged friends can even accompany you at Fort Wilderness.
Deals
If you are patient and watch this site(add Disney link) you can find deals on your stay. We were able to snag 20 percent off our site!
The tent sites offer a concrete pad for vehicles and gravel pad for tent set up, which is so much better than having a tent set up on sand (think of sand everywhere in your tent), that is usually what you get in Florida!
Horses
First, when enter the resort you notice the Trail Blaze Corral. This is home to Disney horses that will take you and your family members that are at least 9 years old, 48 inches tall, and under 250 pounds on a scenic 45 minute trail ride through the wilderness.
Next, back in the Settlement you can find the Tri-Circle-D Ranch stables. Here you can look through the history of Walt Disney and his horses, take a look at carriages and riding gear, and take your little ones for pony rides as long as they are under 80lbs and 48” and under.
Wildlife
Then as you progress through the trails be sure you keep your windows down! You will see wildlife and you will smell some of the most wonderfully fragrant flowers.
We were able to spot deer, armadillos, various birds(lots of cardinals), squirrels, alligators, and wild turkeys. You may or may not get a wake up call from one of those said turkeys who thinks they are a rooster around 7am!
Play at Disney Fort Wilderness
Then make sure you check out one of the resorts three playgrounds! Two of which are more centrally located and one is located at the back of resort near the marina.
The kids will enjoy swinging and climbing the day away. Don’t forget to bring along your fur kids too so they can play at the Bark Park!
The Fort has lots of water fun for the whole family. You will have your choice of two heated swimming pools each with their own hot tubs.
The Meadow Swimmin’ Pool has a water slide and splash pad that is currently undergoing refurbishment through May, but you can still enjoy the pool and hot tub!
The Wilderness Swimmin’ Pool is also fun, and a little less crowded in my experience. Next, you can head to the Marina for more fun on the water.
Rent a Sea Raycer, Pontoon boat, or go on a guided fishing excursion. Sign up for a Segway tour(16yrs and up) or the Wilderness Archery Experience(7yrs and up).
The Fort, like most Disney resorts offers not one, but two arcades! Daniel Boone’s Wilderness Arcade is located in the Meadow Recreation Area and Davy Crockett’s Wilderness Arcade is located right behind Crockett’s Tavern in the Settlement.
Shopping
Forgot to pack something essential for the trip? No worries, you can find all you need at one of the Fort’s two Trading Posts! Each store has anything you need like ice, food, milk, firewood, medicine, and of course some good ole Disney merch!
Food & Beverage
Getting hungry yet? You can get your munching needs met all around the resort. Stop in the Meadow Snack Bar for some pizza, salad, or wilderness dog(a hot dog topped with pulled pork and coleslaw).
Pair your meal with a blackberry colada moonshine and a traditional Mickey’s ice cream bar for dessert.
P&J’s Southern Take Out is sure to satisfy any craving you have, morning or night. I opted for the iced Campfire S’mores Latte.
They have breakfast and you can have a traditional breakfast, breakfast sandwich, Mickey waffles and much more! If you are looking for dinner then you can also look to P&J’s.
They serve up AMAZING fried chicken and rib meals. You will definitely want to try one of their decadent desserts like the very yummy strawberry shortcake!
Next, kick back and put your feet up and sip on a cold libation at Crockett’s Tavern! They have cocktails like the PinaCoLAVA, Moonjito, and Davy’s Moonshine Lemonade.
Their wine selection features Riesling, Pinot Grigio, Merlot, and more. They have your favorite drafts and bottled beer as well. Want to let the kids in on the fun? Crocketts has mocktails for the littles to enjoy too!
Nightly Entertainment at Disney Fort Wilderness
Make sure you stop by the Meadow Recreation Area and check the schedule for the nightly Movie Under the Stars. The resort has an outdoor theatre and each night at 8pm they show one of your favorite Disney movies. We went twice and saw Cinderella and Disneynature: Earth.
Finally, end the night at the Settlement for the nightly water show! Treat the family to a light show featuring wonderful songs and sea creatures like dragons, whales, turtles, octopi, and even a cameo from King Triton himself!
Disney Fort Wilderness is really the best of nature and Disney. There is loads of fun for the whole family even if you never make it to the parks!
Fort Wilderness is worth the hype, do yourself and favor and book now!
